About Westie Pit
Westie Pit is a weekly West Coast Swing dance night held every Tuesday in Burbank, California, right in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. More than just a place to dance, Westie Pit is a community hub—a space where newcomers feel supported, experienced dancers feel inspired, and everyone is welcomed into the vibrant world of West Coast Swing.
Our mission is simple:
Grow the West Coast Swing community by creating an inviting, energetic, and inclusive space where dancers of all levels can learn, connect, and have fun.
A Tuesday Night Tradition in the West Coast Swing Community
What began as a monthly dance has grown into one of the most welcoming and community-driven West Coast Swing events in Los Angeles. Every Tuesday, dancers from all over gather at Westie Pit to learn, practice, and share their love of the dance. Whether you’re stepping onto the floor for the first time or you’ve been dancing for years, Westie Pit provides a home where everyone belongs.
Lessons Designed for All Levels
From 8:00–9:00 PM, we offer two levels of instruction so every dancer can learn at their own pace:
Introductory West Coast Swing Class with Teveya West
Taught by organizer and instructor Teveya West, this class is designed for newcomers or anyone who has never danced West Coast Swing. Teveya’s friendly, supportive teaching style helps new dancers feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. The lesson focuses on the fundamentals—basic patterns, timing, and connection—so students can step into the social dance with confidence.
Beginner/Intermediate Workshop with Guest All-Star & Champion Instructors
For dancers ready to grow, our workshop-style lesson brings in top-level guest instructors from across the West Coast Swing community. These all-star and champion dancers teach fresh material each week, sharing technique, styling, musicality, and movement concepts that help rising dancers progress. It’s a rare chance to learn from some of the most respected professionals in the scene—all in an intimate, welcoming environment.
A Unique West Coast Swing Experience
From 9:00 PM to midnight, Westie Pit transforms into a full social dance with a distinct atmosphere you won’t find at any other weekly event in Southern California. Our venue offers:
- A true nightclub vibe with vibrant lighting and immersive video walls
- A vintage bar that adds charm and social warmth
- A beautiful floating wooden dance floor installed in 1955, beloved for its smooth, responsive feel
This blend of modern energy and classic style makes Westie Pit stand out. The space feels alive—colorful, inviting, and made for dancers.
Music That Moves the Community
Westie Pit features two resident DJs, Tip West and Sailor Mike, both of whom are known throughout the West Coast Swing community for their exceptional music curation. They mix:
- The latest West Coast Swing hits
- Classic favorites
- R&B, pop, funk, acoustic, and contemporary tracks that keep the floor full all night
Their combined styles create a dynamic, dancer-focused playlist that supports beginners learning timing and challenges experienced dancers to express musicality.
